Booster Cables & The Advantages of Nitrile

Last blog, we touched on the continued usefulness of booster cables. Now we want to talk about the different types and sizes that are on offer, so you can determine what you might need for your application.
Projecta overs a comprehensive range of booster cables - plus battery clamps and clips - suiting the home DIYer, professionals and workshops, but most importantly suiting a wide assortment of cars and light commercial trucks of all sizes, plus heavy-duty vehicles.
And the latter is the key point. It doesn’t matter whether you are using a booster cable on debut or you’re a weathered pro, you need to have the right booster cables for your vehicle. What you drive will determine what leads you need. For instance, a small car with a small engine and battery can get by with booster cables rated to much less amperage than say, a diesel-powered 4x4.
Projecta’s “DIY CCA” booster cables are offered in 100A, 200A and 400A, and are suitable for 12V or 24V batteries. This range has enough power to jumpstart most road-going vehicles with the assistance of another vehicle or a second battery.
Up from here, the “Workshop” pure copper booster cables with brass teeth clamps suit the same battery voltage as above, but are better suited to larger 8-cyclinder and diesel-powered vehicles, construction and earth moving machinery. The range here starts with a 500A version and rounds out with 1000A.
We’ll pause the range here to mention a feature that sets booster cables apart from each other: the term “weld-flex”. A weld-flex booster cable features an outer insulation layer that contains a material known as nitrile. Nitrile is extremely flexible, durable and resistant to heat. The second, inner, layer is made of V90HT PVC that can withstand temperatures of up to 105°C. This makes them ideal for use in hot environments, sustained power delivery, and more resistant to the heat generated from off-label uses such as emergency welding.
Projecta’s Premium Heavy-Duty Nitrile booster cables begin with a 750A rating, climbing to 1000A. The double insulated heavy-duty cable offers unparalleled conductivity and the NB750-35P has a copper plated clamp, while all other cables in the range have solid brass 100A clamps.
All booster cables in the Projecta range – apart from the low current SB100 - feature surge protection, which guards vehicle electronics from voltage spikes (Premium Heavy Duty Nitrile booster cables include an LED battery level indicator), plus a convenient storage bag.
Finally, if you are a workshop, or roadside club that offers roadside assistance, Projecta also offers the ServiceMate Premium Nitrile booster cable - a safer and faster way to jumpstart vehicles, and perfect for service vehicles, tow trucks, farmers and 4WDs that regularly jump start vehicles.
